Bacon Buttermilk Biscuits are the savory, salty, perfect bites for breakfast or dinner on Valentine’s day. My husband and I do breakfast for dinner every year for Valentine’s day. Heart shaped food is optional, but this was a fun excuse to use my heart shaped cookie cutter.
Heart shaped or not these biscuits are flaky and delicious. The crispy bacon inside is an added bonus that gives these biscuits a salty bite. Serve these with a drizzle of honey and a spread of butter. What could be better?
Bacon Buttermilk Biscuits
Serve these biscuits with honey and butter.
Ingredients
- 4 slices Thick Cut Bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 3 cups All Purpose Flour
- 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1/2 cup Butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1 whole Egg, whisked used for brushing
- Sea Salt, for sprinkling
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
- Step 2 Combine dry ingredients and add crumbled bacon. Use a pastry cutter to cut in cold butter until butter is about the size of a pea.
- Step 3 Slowly mix in the buttermilk. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead 10 – 15 times until combined.
- Step 4 Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out into a 3/4 inch thick rectangle. Fold dough in half and roll out again into a 3/4 inch thick rectangle. {Folding the dough onto itself gives it layers.} Using a biscuit cutter or thin rimmed glass {like a wine glass!}, cut into rounds. Repeat with excess dough.
- Step 5 Place the biscuits on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops of the biscuits with an egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 12 -15 minutes until golden brown. Serve biscuits with honey and butter.
Savor and Enjoy!
