Brown Butter Blondies

Brown Butter Blondies

Brown Butter Blondies are chewy, rich and buttery. The brown butter in these blondies make the depth of flavor intense and rich. Not to mention your kitchen will smell amazing!

Blondies are just brownies but made with brown sugar instead of cocoa powder. The texture of these bars, once cooled, are like the chewiest softest chocolate chip cookie ever.

Brown butter sounds complicated, but I promise you it’s so simple and comes together in under two minutes. The trick to brown butter is constant heat and stirring. As soon as that butter turns an amber color turn the heat off and keep stirring until it smells nutty and rich. I save two tablespoons of cold butter to pour the brown butter over to cool it efficiently and quickly so you can proceed in the making of these blondies. Because if you’re impatient like me, you hate waiting for it to cool on it’s own.

Brown Butter Blondies

I made these twice in one week they were so addictively good. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you’ll be transported to heaven.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup {1 stick} Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup {packed} Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 8×8 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Step 2 Cut a tablespoon of butter off of the stick and place in a large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the stick of butter to a medium size sauce pan and melt butter over medium heat. Continuously stir the butter as it melts and browns. The butter will look foamy then turn clear before turning a deep golden color. At this point turn heat off while stirring, the brown butter will smell nutty and have brown specks in it. Take the pan off the heat and pour brown butter into the large mixing bowl over the reserved tablespoon of butter. Stir until tablespoon of butter is melted and the butter is cooled, about 1 minute.
  • Step 3 Whisk in brown sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Add in the egg and whisk until combined. Fold in flour and kosher salt with a spatula. Stir until just combined. Add the chocolate chips and fold into batter.
  • Step 4 Turn batter out into prepared pan using a spatula to press the batter into the bottom of the pan and smoothing the top. Bake for 20 minutes until the top is set and golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool slightly. You may serve the blondies warm or cool for up to a hour for firmer blondies. Enjoy!
