Balsamic BBQ Chicken Wings

Balsamic BBQ Chicken Wings

Balsamic BBQ Chicken Wings are a simple and delicious side for your next sports gathering. Baked wings are a healthy alternative to fried. Yes baked and yes they are just as crispy, just as juicy and just as delicious as if you had fried them.

No need to sit over a hot fryer when the game is on, just pop those wings in the oven to roast up to crispy perfection. The key to crispy oven baked wings is Baking Powder. Yep, you heard that right BAKING POWDER {not to be confused with baking soda}. Tossing the wings in baking powder extracts out the moisture in the skin during baking and makes them extra crispy.

Toss those crispy wings in this zesty and savory Balsamic BBQ Sauce and you my foodie friend have a delicious game day treat to feed your comrades all season long.

Game day entertaining is right in my wheelhouse, I pair these wings with some ice cold beer, some chips and dip and a couple sliders on the side. Your guests will be thrilled, lets just hope your team wins!

On another note, I’m happy to announce that I’m a proud owner of a new 60mm f/2.8 Macro Fixed Lens and it’s everything. Perfect aperture control and range for close photography and detail. In other words, it is the perfect food porn lens and I’m over the moon excited to take some drool worthy photos. Things are about to get good.

Saucy, sweet, savory, these wings are everything.

Ingredients
  • 4 pounds Chicken Wings
  • 2 tablespoons Baking Powder {NOT BAKING SODA}
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt and Ground Black Pepper
  • For the Balsamic BBQ Sauce
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2/3 cup Aged Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Hickory Liquid Smoke
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire
  • 1/2 cup Honey
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt
  • Green Onion, chopped for garnish
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F.
  • Step 2 Spray a large sheet pan fitted with a wire rack with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Step 3 If you bought whole chicken wings like I did. Cut off the wing tips at the joint and separate the wing and the drumstick at the joint. Pat the wings dry with a paper towel. Place wings in a bowl and toss with baking powder and salt and pepper.
  • Step 4 Place the chicken wings on the sheet pan and space evenly.
  • Step 5 Bake the wings at 250 degrees F for 30 minutes. Heat your oven to 425 degrees F and cook for 45 more minutes until wings are golden brown and crispy.
  • Step 6 While wings are baking, prepare the BBQ sauce. Whisk together all ingredients in a medium size saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 15 minutes until sauce is thickened. Set aside until ready to serve.
  • Step 7 Remove wings from the oven and place them in a bowl. Pour half the sauce over the wings and toss together with tongs. Add more to your liking or serve the remaining sauce on the side with your favorite wing accouterments. Garnish with chopped green onions.
